What's in the works for 2019?

Image
So I've done a few cover reveals lately, and have more queued for the coming weeks...but I thought it would be nice to get a post together to talk about what's coming up. I have four series in the works, all of them with releases either ongoing or within the next few months. Tribari Freedom Chronicles A world of absolute want and gaudy excess, nothing is done in half measures in the Tribari empire. When a push for reform is met with brutal crackdowns, a disparate cast of citizens - miners and prisoners, contributors and military personnel - are caught up in a deadly game of survival, with far more than their lives on the line. A dystopian science fiction series, starting with the novelette Catalyst - available tomorrow. The follow up novel Uprising is available for preorder. Another novel, tying the first two together, is in progress. Darker than some of my other work, but I really love this series. It deals with so many complex themes and characters, and fun sci-...

Cover reveal: Uprising

Last month, I revealed the cover for Catalyst ( out next week ), a novelette and the first installment in the Tribari Freedom Chronicles series. I'm thrilled to announce the second book in the series, Uprising . Uprising is a standalone novel in the same world. About Uprising : A daughter of Grand Contributors. The wife of a reformer. A woman caught between worlds. Nikia Idan  was raised in the glimmering spheres of society’s elite, but she traded it all for the love of a man who wants to change the Tribari empire. Her new reality is harsher than she ever imagined it could be. When her husband’s push for reform is met with brutal violence, her worlds will collide with a force that will either break her – or the system that brought her to the point of breaking. Release date: March 1st. Preorder link coming soon. Uprising available on Amazon .

Dear readers, I'm delighted to announce the first of a number of releases for 2019. Catalyst is a novelette introducing the world and one of the key players in the Tribari Freedom Chronicles dystopian sci-fi series. It will be available January 15th for purchase. I'll have a pre-order link up probably after Christmas. But without further ado, the cover reveal: About Catalyst : For a week, Brek Trigan has left behind the frigid nights and icy days of life on the mining colony he calls home. He's on holiday to his ancestral planet, and he finds a sparkling, welcoming world of riches and warmth. But the longer he remains, the more he begins to see cracks in the glistening façade. When civil unrest erupts, Brek's plans for a peaceful getaway are dashed. Suddenly he's drawn into a conflict that will change the fate of his people, whether he wants to be or not. Uprising , Book 2 in the series, is tentatively scheduled for a mid-to-late March release. U...

Yup, I'm doing NaNoWriMo!

So I know I haven't updated the blog in a bit. Work and personal commitments have kept me busy, busy. Anyhow, thought I'd give my readers a bit of an update on my authorial journey. :p I decided to take the plunge and participate in NaNoWriMo - the November novel writing challenge. I'm working on a story I'd started last month, but this first week is committed to other things - so I don't feel like too much of a cheater. :-) It's a fantasy novel set in a Rome-esque world, tentatively titled, Realm of Vipers . I'll try to post my progress as the days go by, and maybe some sneak previews about the story. Wish me luck, y'all!

Discuss the story: changing tides

Image
This blog post is devoted to exploring 'changing tides' facing the characters of Prison Break and the Unholy Trinity series. What "changing tides"? There are a lot of different forces in the Unholy Trinity series exerting various pulls on the protagonists and other characters. And, of course, there's the ups and downs of life, the "wheel of fortune", that we all experience. But these are exacerbated by the structure of the world, and the extremes that dominate it: extreme wealth and poverty, extreme privilege and want, extreme "justice" and exceptions. When society is so stratified, the ups are much higher and the downs much lower. As Prison Break and later Judas Kiss tell the stories of people far nearer the bottom of society's pecking order than the top, the downs are pretty low. How low? Imprisonment and death sentence low, for starters. In the world described, how can the 'tide change' for the protagonists? This...

Discuss the story: exploring interfaith friendship in Prison Break

Image
This blog post is devoted to exploring one of the key themes of Prison Break and the Unholy Trinity series: interfaith cooperation, especially among the marginalized.   How does interfaith friendship impact Prison Break , or the Unholy Trinity series? Interfaith cooperation and friendship is really the backbone of Prison Break and the series. Without delving too deeply into the world (that's another post), the series takes place in a universe of limited and strictly sanctioned intellectual diversity -- and it's dangerous to hold beliefs that fall outside of that spectrum. One of Prison Break 's protagonists is non-religious (Agata) and the other is a priest (Father Edlin). Both hold beliefs that are decidedly outside the mainstream, but it's Father Edlin whose beliefs actually land him in trouble. How? Father Edlin sees the church as a mission from God, a calling to serve the people. Edlin believes that faith is justified by works, and that the state-sanction...

New release: Prison Break

Image
As promised, dear readers (all 15 of you! 😁 ), a special announcement about an upcoming release! Mercy is weakness. Forgiveness is blasphemy. Sin is crime. The unholy trinity - monotheists, polytheists and technotheists - rule in unison. Justice is not blind, but soulless. In a city of stratified wealth and endemic poverty, Father Edlin tries to make a difference. His little church and free clinics provide a flicker of hope to the downtrodden populace. But not for long. The men with guns show up, and it's only a matter of time before a forced confession of heresy is extracted. Now Father Edlin sits in a cell, awaiting the fulfillment of his death sentence. But somewhere in the night, a friend lurks, waiting for the chance to pay off an old debt... Available April 10th. Available for pre-order now !
